Painting A Wall
Painting a room dramatically changes its whole appearance. So if you wish to redecorate a room in your home or simply want to give it a fresh look and don’t have millions of bucks to spare, try painting the main wall. One common problem many amateur painters encounter when painting their walls is streaks. Tempo gives you a few handy tips on how not to end up with walls that might look like they belong in Picasso’s nightmare.
Step 1: Roll your paint roller evenly in the paint dish with decent coverage. Make sure you drain off excess paint from the roller into the grid in the paint tray before you place it on the wall.
Step 2: Visualize a 3x3 inch box on the wall you are about to paint. Remember to adjust the size of the imaginary box according to the size of your roller. This is the area inside which you will move the roller. Place the roller sideways in the top left corner of your imaginary box. You will be painting the area side to side.
Step 3: Go from the left side to the right side of the box, making a zigzag motion while rolling the paint in your imaginary box on the wall. Begin overlapping strokes, about 1/2 inch to 1 inch. Continue till the end of the box. Once at the bottom, continue to zigzag back to the top.
Step 4: Next, place the roller in the top right corner of the box vertically. Paint the wall with the same zigzag motion you used in the previous step. Only this time you will be painting from top to bottom, overlapping your previous stroke as you shift towards the side. Once you get to the end of your box, go back in the opposite direction.
Step 5: Move to the next area (beside the one you just painted) and repeat each of the above steps for the next imaginary box.
