Helping Hand aka the Rahma Brigade

Braeden Enzo Manuel is Wayne and Rowena Puras’s adorable two year old boy
who was born in UAE and needs your immediate help. Last October, he underwent an Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR) test as his parents noticed that he was unable to utter even a single word. The ABR confirmed what they dreaded most: their son is completely deaf. In order to rectify their son’s condition the Puras family has decided to go ahead with a cochlear implant, surgery, and the speech therapy required to give their son a normal life which will cost a minimum of Dh 216,275.

“As we can not afford the amount no matter how much we tried, we are determined to ask everyone who could help, even if it would mean begging everyone even for a little amount to raise money for our son for him to live like any normal kid around, being able to hear loving words from us, having education; and just like you and me being able to hear music and laughter…”

Good News Dispatch

The Greenery Prize: Good news city residents! Abu Dhabi Municipality has bagged the Greenery Prize at the 10th Arab Towns Organization Awards last month. Numerous Arab metropolises and capitals were in fierce competition with each other over this much sought-after title. Think of it as a green beauty pageant for cities. Wish to know why we won? Abu Dhabi has 1250 hectares covered by plantation, while the number of trees outside our ‘nature-loving’ city are in excess of 5.5 million! With statistics like that no wonder the competition went green… with envy.

Volunteer opportunity at AD Triathlon: If you are all pumped up for a sporty month after the Terry Fox run along the Corniche last month then this volunteering opportunity is for you! The organizers for Abu Dhabi Triathlon are looking for a number of volunteers to help make it a world class race. If you are interested in volunteering for the event please email info@abudhabitriathlon.com and in the subject line put VOLUNTEER.

Saadiyat Beach Classics Charity Gala Dinner: Organized by Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC), the dinner successfully raised more than Dh 1.2 million.  The Zayed Higher Organization for Humanitarian Care and Special Needs, Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, Red Crescent UAE, Future Centre for Special Needs and the Gary Player Foundation are the amongst the five renowned humanitarian organizations which will be sharing the funds.
Highlighting the importance of relief efforts to be directed towards helping the victims of Haiti’s recent catastrophic earthquake, a one-of-a-kind classic 1976 Rolls Royce Silver Shadow with the body hand-painted by Emirati artist Abdul Qader Al Rays was donated by Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) in the charity auction. This stunning work of art in motion raised Dh 155,000 for a worthy cause.

Tempo Loves… Female Triathletes in Abu Dhabi
The world’s top female athletes are gearing-up to compete in the Abu Dhabi International Triathlon (ADIT). With more than 500 participants confirmed from 25 countries, it’s going to be a dash to the finish line, skid marks and all! Here’s what two of the top-tier professionals had to say about the event which has attracted the world’s top 50 athletes to the shores of Abu Dhabi:
“I am super excited about making the trip to Abu Dhabi in March.  It is a great opportunity for me to step up in distance and try to learn a lot about myself.  With such a great organization behind the race, and a great prize purse, it is set to attract a great field of top pro males and females.” Julie Dibens
“I can’t wait; I’m really looking forward to racing the Abu Dhabi International Triathlon. The race-distances, the course-design and professionalism of the organization are promising to make this race a hotspot in the event’s calendar. The world will see triathlon at its best and I am thrilled that Abu Dhabi is adding triathlon to the list of successful world-class events.” Yvonne Van Vlerken

Tempo’s Eco Vote!
In a bid to adhere to global sustainability standards, TDIC has ordered the world’s first two zero-emission all-electric buses to Abu Dhabi for operation on Sir Bani Yas Island. To be introduced from this month, Sir Bani Yas Island, the 87-square kilometer natural island, will be the first destination in the world to have a public transportation system run solely on all-electric buses.

AROUND THE NEIGHBOURHOOD

I spent close to three hours there on that Friday afternoon. It wasn’t crowded although there were families with small children, mainly Indian or Arab expats with some Qataris....
